Nebraska Football: Confidence was watchword of first game week PC
The Nebraska football team had its first official “game week” press conference of the season and confidence was a word that was quite prevalent during head coach Scott Frost’s portion of that conference.
He started things off by expressing confidence in his medical staff and his assistants in watching over the health and safety of Husker players. He also added that when he claimed his offensive line was vomiting “15-20 times” per practice, he was “exaggerating.”
Frost then moved on to what was really important, and that was how his squad is preparing for their first game of the season, this coming Saturday against the Northwestern Wildcats.
It didn’t take long at all for the conversation to turn to how the Huskers are approaching the Week 0 matchup, especially when it came to how they approached a Week 0 matchup against Illinois a year ago.
The Nebraska football team’s head coach made it very clear that he understands the team came out quite tight against the Illini. He added part of that was because they knew what was at stake when it came to trying to establish a good season.
He added he and the rest of the squad know there’s a ton at stake this year as well, but he feels as if the Huskers are going to come out and “let it rip” against the Wildcats.
The Nebraska football team’s head coach went on to say that he feels in general, the 2022 version of the Huskers has quite a bit of confidence and he feels as though they’ve earned the right to be confident.
While Frost didn’t go into a ton of depth about why the team has more confidence than its had in the past, he did also call out the wide receiver corps as one unit that has a ton of confidence.
The head coach added that in some regards, guys like Trey Palmer and Marcus Washington have a bit “too much” confidence while quickly adding that he thinks the Nebraska football team could use a few players with no shortage of self-assurance.
Frost was far from the only person who addressed a sort of different approach than some are used to seeing with the Huskers. When new starting quarterback Casey Thompson strode to the mic, he made it clear that while he’s excited for the game against Northwestern, he’s not nervous.
The Texas Longhorns transfer credited the way he trains and practices for his even keel approach in games. He did admit that he was nervous before his first ever college football start but since then, he’s been able to feel pretty relaxed.
Finally, one of the Cornhuskers’ team captains strode to the microphone and made it very clear the kind of confidence the Nebraska football team is entering its first game week of the season with.
“We all know the only thing we’re going there to do is win a football game,” Nick Henrich told the assembled media.
While confidence was definitely the watchword of the day for the Nebraska football team, now it’s time to see if they can follow through.
