It appears that the Nebraska basketball team won’t be landing a graduate transfer guard from Florida.

While former Florida Gator star Keyontae Johnson visited Lincoln earlier this week and the Huskers were among four teams the player was considering at one time, it appears as though both sides have decided to go their separate ways.

Robin Washut of On3.com reported that at issue was Johnson’s continuing health worries.

The Nebraska basketball prospect hasn’t played a collegiate game since December of 2020 due to a heart condition. Before that issue ended his playing career, he was considered a shoo-in to one day play in the NBA.

However, both Washut and the Omaha World-Herald report that there is some concern that Johnson is not actually ready to return to action.

The Huskers just got into the hunt for the 6-6 guard and because of that, the medical personnel didn’t feel as though they could clear the potential grad transfer to play for the program. The single biggest issue is that, by all accounts, Johnson is looking to announce his commitment in the next couple of days.

It also appears as though his timeline to announce his decision could be moved up. Originally, it was thought he would schedule a visit to Memphis before pulling the trigger. However, that trip has been canceled.

It’s now thought that the former Florida player will commit to Kansas State sometime in the next few days. That move would have an interesting little twist if only because the Nebraska basketball program will take on the Wildcats On December 17.

Despite not gaining yet another commitment from a talented player, things have still been going rather well for the Nebraska basketball team over the last week. Not only did Fred Hoiberg finally fill his open assistant coaching position with Ernie Zeigler, but he also gained a commitment from 2023 prospect Eli Rice.
