The Nebraska football team is coming off a 3-9 campaign. It was the fifth straight losing season for the Huskers in what has been a run that hasn’t been seen in Lincoln for decades.

When trying to figure out what to expect this season, most people are talking about taking it easy. There are some areas the Cornhuskers can improve in order to win more games.

Most people are convinced that Nebraska needs to crawl before it can walk. The standard seems to be that Scott Frost and company are going to be lucky to top out at eight or nine wins.

There are some who apparently think the Nebraska football team are actually going to be quite good this season.

When the AP Top 25 is released on Monday, it’s a safe bet the Huskers won’t be in the rankings. It would be unheard of that a 3-9 team from 2021 would be considered one of the best 25 teams in the country.

But it appears there are at least some voters who think the Cornhuskers rate that high. At least one AP voter thinks that’s where NU rates.

The final tallies aren’t out yet, but Brett McMurphy of Action Sports Network announced he’s voted for the Nebraska football team to be rated as the 25th best team in the country.

That’s actually pretty high praise considering the run Frost and his gang have been on since arriving in Lincoln. Perhaps the most interesting part is that McMurphy isn’t the only one at Action Sports Network who is sold on the Huskers as a team that is going to surprise quite a few people this year.

Senior writer Collin Wilson actually ranks the Huskers at number 16.

While it would certainly be nice to see that happen this year, it sure feels like those rankings might be jumping the gun a bit. While it would be nice to see the Cornhuskers shoot out of the gate and put together a heck of a 2022, starting out at 16 seems rather high at this point.

Now the Nebraska football team just has to finally lace ’em up and get the season under way. It just so happens we don’t have all that long to wait.
