A Nebraska football victory feels GREAT! Ok, it was an FCS team but still! LOTS of players got to see action. We might have seen how talented Wide Receiver, Samori Toure is now! I still have questions about Omar Manning, flavor-of-the-year, 2020. Running back, Markese Stepp looked really good, but can be even better. Gabe Ervin still has lots of promise as well as a running back. You can never have enough of them. I’ve missed downhill running.

I would suggest to you that Adrian Martinez delivered the ball quicker last week, in better places and with great results. Backup QB Logan Smothers didn’t disappoint until he fumbled the ball after getting hit in the back. (That old Martinez QB used to do that too.) The O-Line is still working things out but the key for me is they actually adjusted. That’s on the coaches. Well done. Don’t stop.

This week the University of Buffalo Bulls come to town. If you’re not familiar with a college that labels itself as one of the most affordable colleges, I can tell you they are big into research. CNN reporter, Wolf Blitzer is an alum too. That’s about it.  Gametime is 2:30 CDT, and it will be televised on BTN. It’s going to feel like 93 degrees and be muggy so bring your sunscreen and cool towel.

The Buffalo football team is known to be physical so the Huskers will have to man up! QB Kyle Vantrease was last week’s Mid-American Conference Player of the Week at 15 /19, with a total of 231 yards. One of them was a deep 63-yard route so he can sling it. Huskers will also need to focus on stopping the run for this one and play clean on offense. Huskers defense needs to be disruptive. I’d like to see outside linebacker, Pheldarius Payne bring the pain!

This week it’s the 20th anniversary of 9/11. It’s also a celebration of the first responders and rightly so. If you haven’t seen the special video, here it is. Don’t let the alternate jerseys and helmet throw you.

Pretty amazing job by Husker Football and production. In case you don’t know the guy carrying the flag, it’s Nebraska backup outside linebacker, junior Damien Jackson. He’s a former Navy SEAL! Gives me chills when I see him in the weight room doing his thing. A BEAST for sure! Check out his frogman #38 logo too!

I could never do justice to the tribute that will be played Saturday at the stadium so I won’t even try. Simply put, THANK YOU to all the first responders out there!

I wasn’t into research (like Buffalo) but I did find a cocktail called the Old Fashioned Buffalo from which to be inspired. It’s made of bourbon and campari, with a muddled orange and simple syrup. I’m not that fancy. Mix 1 cup of boiling water with orange jello. Add 1/2 cup bourbon (Jim Beam works) and 1/4 cup cherry juice. Pour and chill into shot cups. If you want a blue-colored shot because the Buffaloes are blue, use the shot recipe from last week found here.

If you’ve forgotten the correct etiquette for tailgating because it’s been so long… call and warn the host ahead of time you’re coming, bring something with you or drop off some cash. It’s all for fun but a good time is never free.

It will be warm so find shade where you can. Be good fans. Yell loudly to disrupt the other team. Hit me up at @kelian_NE on Twitter with your photos and recipes. As always, GO BIG RED!
