Nebraska football is heading to Ireland! That sentence sounds familiar, as the Cornhuskers and Big Red Nation were supposed to be gearing up for a trip to Ireland this summer but it was canceled due to the pandemic. Now, however, the trip is back on, but for next summer!
The Cornhuskers will face Northwestern in Ireland in the first game of the season next year. Per the Huskers’ official website (linked above), Bill Moos had this to say,
"“We are excited to reschedule the trip to Ireland for our football program,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said. “The young men in our program have been looking forward to this trip and we are happy to provide them this memorable experience. I know our great Husker fan base will be excited as well and the opportunity to travel to Ireland to see their team compete on an international stage will truly be special."
This matchup was supposed to take place on Oct. 8, 2022, but was moved up to accommodate the travel schedule. This won’t be an easy game for the Huskers, as Northwestern has had their number in recent years but a trip to Ireland will be a lot of fun for both programs.
This is still a year away so we can handle the actual game discussion when we get closer to that time but for now, let’s relish in the fact that the trip is still going to take place, even if it will be a year later than planned.
Nebraska football is heading to Ireland for next year’s season opener.
Husker fans are stoked to get their bags packed for the long journey and to see their team play abroad in what should be a fun experience for all, win or lose. Though hopefully the Huskers win and start next season off with a victory.
Who all is heading to Ireland to watch the Huskers play the Wildcats next summer?
