So far, I am hearing great things about Nebraska football freshman. One of the players that has really stood out to the coaches is tight end Thomas Fidone. He has been the talk of the town even before he committed to Nebraska football. Now, it appears he is continuing to put the work in order to be successful.

There is no doubt he has the natural athletic gifts to be able to be successful. Now, I think it’s just more about him adapting to the college football pace of play and routine. It’s sort of unfair to put pressure on him like this, but he is going to have to be the face of the Nebraska football tight end position for years to come. There is a lot of pressure weighing on his shoulders, and he is going to be an integral piece of the offense.

Tight ends coach Sean Beckton talked to the media earlier this week about Fidone’s performance and Wednesday’s scrimmage as well as how he has been adjusting to college football. So far, it sounds like everything is going according to plan and is positive. There is no doubt from reports I’ve read around the internet that he is a workhorse and wants to put in the work to succeed. It seems like that is translating onto the practice field as well.

I honestly can’t wait to see how translates on game day. As for now, it’s just about him completing the simple steps and about him trying to grow as a  collegiate football player. Those are certainly important steps to take, even as a freshman.

"“Today was the best practice he’s had since he’s been here,” Beckton said. “It’s been a step by step process with him. He’s coming to work as soon as he’s gotten here. We’ve given him a lot of information and he’s done an unbelievable job. My goal for him is, ‘I told him I’m going to press him on every single detail when he’s in.’ Same thing with Carnie.”“He’s starting to understand the techniques and how to practice on the college level,” Beckton said. “This is the best day, by far. So I’m really, really proud of where he’s come. We’ve just got to keep pressing him to continue on. He’s going to help this football team this year.”"

This is exactly what I love to hear. The Nebraska football coaching staff is not taking it easy on Fidone or any of the tight ends for that matter. They want them to be proficient in terms of technique every single snap. If they want to see the field, learning and succeeding will be the best way for them to do it. I have no doubt that athletically, this unit has a promising future.

I see a very promising future for Fidone. If he can get the techniques down with the help of the coaching staff, that will put him in better shape for fall camp. With the ability that he has, I have no problem saying that the tight end position is wide open. If he can put together more days like Wednesday, he will be at the top of the depth chart very soon.
