Nebraska Football: James Carnie is finally at full strength
After being slowed down by injuries earlier this spring, Nebraska football tight end James Carnie is ready to go. He was recovering from shoulder surgery earlier in the spring, but it appears that he is doing much better.
That was evident during Wednesday scrimmage, as he was getting rave reviews from the coaching staff. Carnie is going to be important for the Nebraska football tight end room. You have heard me rave all throughout the offseason about the depth that this room has, and he is certainly a big part of that. The good performance in Wednesday scrimmage was important for him, as he has been slowed down by that injury.

This is certainly an encouraging development to me because I have been excited about the depth at the Nebraska football tight end position. Film is one thing, execution is another. If he can help Nebraska football establish a triple threat at tight end, that would be tremendous for the program moving forward.
As tight ends coach Sean Beckton told the media on Wednesday, Carnie is not only healthy and ready to go, he is also a quick learner. That quick learning ability will be important for his development moving forward as well as the position moving forward.
"Former Norris standout tight end James Carnie is “full go” after being slowed earlier this spring by shoulder surgery during the offseason, Husker tight ends coach Sean Beckton said.“When you’re coming off a shoulder injury, and you haven’t been used in a while, he’s struggling with that right now,” the coach said, noting that Carnie actually enjoyed a strong outing in Wednesday’s scrimmage."
This also sounds to me like Nebraska football is continuing to focus on featuring the position in the offense. I like this as well. With the overall talented that this position has, it would be a mistake to not feature them in the offense. This is not a one-dimensional position anymore. This is a position with talent.
It will be interesting to hear the reviews about the rest of the tight ends and the position as a whole. With Austin Allen positioning himself to be a leader, this tight end position could be extremely balanced with both talent and experience. This would certainly be a change up from where the tight end position stood in years past. This unit could finally serve as a viable option on the offensive side of the football.
