Nebraska baseball is off to an absolutely hot start. With their series win over Maryland this weekend, they improved to 15-6 on the season, and sit atop the Big Ten standings. One of the big reasons for their success is the play of freshman Max Anderson.
On the season, Anderson is batting. 346 with five home runs and 18 runs batted in. He was a big factor in how Nebraska baseball played this weekend. He recorded two hits, including a home run. This weekend’s series was a microcosm of how he has played the entire season. This was not even his best series. Take for example earlier in the season against Ohio State on March 12. He had three runs batted in that game and was the catalyst in Nebraska’s victory.

Another example of just how potent he can be offensively was a March 21 contest against Iowa. He had five runs batted in, and was truly carrying the way for Nebraska baseball offensively. Whenever Nebraska needed him in that game, he came through. He has not looked like a freshman for most of the season. He has looked like a polished veteran who is extremely comfortable at the plate.
It’s crazy to think that he is only a freshman. He can only go up from here, and he can only get better. When you look at a player like Anderson who is a freshman, as well as some of the other players coming in, the future is very bright for Nebraska baseball. This is a testament to Will Bolt and his coaching staff, as they have been able to recruit at a high level.
The future is very bright for a player like Max Anderson. You have heard me talk all the time about Nebraska Athletics and some of the cornerstone players that they have in their respective programs. Anderson could certainly be a cornerstone for Nebraska baseball. He has the talent and the skill to be able to take the program to levels they have never gone before. Anderson is a special baseball player, and this season is proof of that.
