At the end of March, you me talk about how Nebraska football running back Gabe Ervin was in a good position to assert himself into the running back conversation during the spring. Now, it appears he is doing so.

I always thought that Ervin could be extremely effective for Nebraska football because of his hard running style. Not only that, he is extremely balanced in the way he runs with the football. He reminded me a lot of Dedrick Mills, and I think that is the role will primarily play in the future.

As we continue to hear more quotes from the coaching staff, Scott Frost sees the running back asserting himself into the running back conversation. This is something that I thought would be able to happen rather quickly to be perfectly honest. There is not a ton of proven running back  depth beyond Markese Stepp. Ervin certainly has a chance to be able to take over the number two spot.

As Brian Christopherson noted on Friday, Ervin is in a unique position to where he can definitely make an impact at the running back position. He is certainly starting to impress the coaches. In addition to that, his skill is shining through. It seems like he is a very polished player, which is rare to see for a freshman. Nevertheless, that is exactly what Nebraska football needs, as they look for the program to take the next step in 2021.

Not only that, he seems to be very much a team player. As noted by Brian Christopherson of 247Sports. This is also something that is good to hear.

"It’s early, but it’s also a position where no one else (besides Stepp maybe) had an established enough resume to not think Ervin could factor in. Scott Frost offered a fine compliment for the newcomer this week: “He just has an approach like a pro. He acts like a grown-up. He gets in the huddle and encourages and competes.”"

Nebraska football has always seemed to recruit the running back position well. It is a good possibility that Ervin could be yet another example of a solid recruit. As long as he keeps trending upward, I really think he could be a tremendous asset to the Nebraska football program. I really am excited to see how he develops and how big of a role he will play in the future. Something tells me he will be involved heavily in it.
