I have not written about this Nebraska football player in quite a while. However, he definitely deserves to be written about. Not only does he deserve to be written about, he is getting recognition from his peers as well.

Damion Daniels spoke to the media earlier this week, and he talked about the progress that some of his teammates have been making. One of the players he discussed was Nash Hutmacher. For what it’s worth, I have always been intrigued about what he could potentially bring to the table. Now, it appears he is going to possibly get his shot. A freshman last year, now could be his shot to make an impact on the defensive line.

I talked a little bit last year about his hard-working mindset. So far, it seems like he continues to bring that to the table. That is certainly a good thing. He will definitely need it on a defense that is full of playmakers. Measuring in at six-foot-five, 330 pounds, Hutmacher is definitely not somebody that opposing offensive lines can push around easily. This may work in his favor as spring ball practices continue.

As Daniels noted to the media earlier this week, Hutmacher is impressive in the way he can use his strength. Between his work in the weight room, and the way he can move athletically, that certainly forms a dangerous combination. That combination of traits is something that he can benefit from throughout his Nebraska football career. As a sophomore, he only has room to grow as well. Daniels is taking note of Hutmacher’s work ethic.

"“Nash is one of the strongest people, probably, in the program right now,” Daniels said. “Watching him move the weight, it’s ridiculous. He’s moving way better than when before he first got here. Just looking at how far he’s come since he’s been here, that’s pretty big.”"

Defensive line coach Tony Tuioti also gave an example of how nimble Hutmacher is. Just reading these reports, I can envision him being a nightmare for opposing offenses sooner rather than later. Take Tuioti’s story of Hutmacher working on a ladder drill.

"“He picks his big feet up and brings them back down — and he’s snapping every single step-over ladder,” Tuioti told the Journal Star earlier this month. “They literally snap and pop to the side. They split like peas. Everybody stopped and started cracking up. I’m like, ‘Nash, are you serious? You just broke three of those things.’"

I don’t like to get overly excited about players, just because I feel like it puts unfair expectations on them. However, I feel like the sky is the limit for a player affectionately nicknamed “The Polar Bear.” If he can learn to harness those skills each year, he could be one of the most dominant players on the Nebraska football defensive line in no time. He has the type of qualities that every defensive player dreams about.
