Nebraska Football: Ndamukong Suh agrees to new deal with Buccaneers
A Nebraska football alum was signed to a new deal on Wednesday.
A Nebraska football alum is getting a new contract. Ndamukong Suh agreed to a one-year $9 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday.
He recorded 43 tackles and six sacks in the 2020 season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His best game last season came on December 13 against the Minnesota Vikings. In that contest, he recorded six tackles and a sack.
In the Super Bowl, he played at a high level as well. He recorded two tackles and a sack and a half. After being selected by the Detroit Lions with the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, he has bounced around the league for a couple of seasons. In addition to Detroit, he has also had stops in Miami and Los Angeles with the Rams.
For his career, Suh has recorded 64.5 sacks and 563 tackles in 11 years of play.
In his two years with the Buccaneers, he has established himself as a reliable force on the defensive line. Although he may not have the same explosiveness that he used to, he still can be an effective player defensively. He still plays with aggression and purpose. On a Tampa Bay defense that has ton of weapons, he certainly has provided depth and has fit into his role nicely.
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to defend their Super Bowl title, it will be interesting to see what role he will be able to play. My guess is that he will still be the same effective player that he has been for the Buccaneers the past two seasons. He has really been able to solidify the line for Tampa Bay, and has given them another weapon in terms of depth.
The NFL free agency period has been a whirlwind. Although this is one of the smaller deals in comparison to some of the others we have seen, this was a good move by Tampa Bay. It is just another example of a Nebraska football alumni making it big in the National Football League.
