Nebraska baseball was able to pick up a series win over Iowa.

It was a successful weekend for the Nebraska baseball program as they were able to take down Iowa  in the weekend series after a rough start on Friday.

They were shut out by a 3-0 margin to begin the series on Friday, and that put them in a difficult spot heading into the weekend. However, they were able to rebound nicely on Saturday, winning 10-8 and taking the series on Sunday by a 13-8 margin.

Saturday’s game was a bit of a weird one. The game was scoreless until the third ending when Nebraska scored seven runs. Iowa scored one run in the fourth, and six runs in the fifth and the lead completely evaporated. Cam Chick hit a grand slam to give Nebraska baseball a 4-0 lead, and his second home run of the day secured Nebraska’s lead and victory. He was undoubtedly a force at the plate on Saturday.

Braxton Bragg was able to pick up the win to improve to 1-1 on the season. Spencer Schwellenbach was able to pick up the save for his second of the season. This was a game where pitching really wasn’t the focus. The offenses’ came to play and they came up big.

Sunday was more of the same to be completely honest. Nebraska was able to slug their way a 13-8 victory in the final game of the series against Iowa on Sunday. They were able to pound out 13 runs on 11 hits and were aided by eight walks. I feel like I write about him all the time, but Max Anderson was another big part of the Nebraska baseball offensive onslaught. He had five runs batted in on the afternoon to lead the entire team in that category.

Shay Schanaman struggled on Sunday,  giving up four runs and walking five batters in 2 2/3 innings. However, the bullpen was able to pick up the slack for Nebraska baseball. Tyler Martin picked up his first win of the season, giving up a hit. From there, the bullpen was able to do rest of the work for Nebraska baseball. Just like Saturday’s game, this was a contest where offense ruled the day.

With this series win , Nebraska baseball sits fourth in the conference with a 7-4 record. It is not a bad record all things considered, and it certainly keeps them afloat in a tight conference.

Up next, Nebraska baseball have a weekend series with Minnesota beginning on Friday. Minnesota is in the bottom half of the league standings right now, so this could be a great chance for Nebraska to inch their way up.

All in all, this was a successful weekend filled with offense. It was certainly great to see.
