All in all, not a terrible weekend for Nebraska baseball.

Nebraska baseball had a mixed bag results over the weekend as they finished the weekend with a 2-2 record. After trouncing Ohio State by a 10-4 margin on Friday, they were able to shut out Iowa by a 4-0 score on Saturday.

Sunday was a bit of a struggle for Nebraska baseball. They lost the first game of their doubleheader by a 6-4 margin to Ohio State. They  then lost to Iowa in the second game by a  3-1 margin. It was certainly a somber result after  what started off as a good weekend. First, let’s get to the good stuff.

More from Husker Corner

Offensively, the best performance of the weekend came on Friday. Max Anderson had one hit in four-at bats but it was a three-run home run. Joe Acker also did his part, driving in two runs of his own. Nebraska scored 10 runs on 11 hits and they seemed to be able to keep the offensive train rolling. The offense was at its best on Friday.

In terms of pitching, the best performance there came on Saturday against Iowa. Chance Hroch was able to pick up his second win of the season. He pitched six innings, giving up five hits and no runs while walking a  batter and striking out seven. It was great to see the bullpen do their part as well, they helped him preserve the victory. Spencer Schwellenbach was able to pick up his first save of the season in this game.

Following the action this weekend, Nebraska baseball will play Iowa beginning next Friday. Given how the last game of Sunday’s doubleheader ended, Nebraska baseball will undoubtedly be looking for revenge.

Even with the rough results on Sunday, Nebraska still has a 5-3 record. They are tied with Northwestern in that regard, and are third in the Big Ten Conference.

This team is certainly exciting to watch, and it’s one of the more exciting Nebraska baseball teams in recent memory. I’ll be interested to see how they do next weekend. A good series next weekend would really be huge for this team. There is no doubt that Will Bolt has this program headed in the right direction.
