Williams is a three-star recruit. He is the 25th overall week side defensive end in the 2022 class, and the talent overall player in his class from the state of Indiana per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He does have an impressive offer sheet that includes the likes of Cincinnati, Louisville, Michigan State, Penn State, and Alabama.
As a sophomore in 2019, he recorded 24 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for Westfield High School in Indiana. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 230 pounds, Williams shows great pursuit off the edge and gets into the backfield rather quickly. He has tremendous speed, and is able to get to the ball carrier with ease.
I could instantly see him playing a huge part on the Nebraska football defense. He has the type of motor and potential to be able to be a key player. He has the type of speed to be able to be successful in the Nebraska football defense. Speed is not necessarily something the program has had at the defensive end position. Nebraska football appears to be trying to change that.
With only one commitment, the 2022 class ranks 54th nationally and 10th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. Of course, that ranking is a little bit deceiving right now, and I expect that to skyrocket in the future. Nebraska football is going after some big playmakers, and Williams certainly fits that mold.
Nebraska already has their work cut out for him. Some of the top schools are offering him. If there is one thing that works in their favor, it is that they have established a stronghold of sorts in the Midwest. This is one area of the country where Nebraska football has had moderate success, particularly in Iowa and in the state of Nebraska itself.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of Williams’ visit. Hopefully, Nebraska football will be able to make a strong enough impression to separate themselves from the top-tier schools. Williams certainly has the body type in the athleticism to fit well in the Nebraska football defense.
