Nebraska Basketball: Lat Mayen explodes for career night in win
Mayen had a big evening for Nebraska basketball.
Nebraska basketball beat Rutgers by a 72-51 score. This marked their second conference win in as many days as well as their third conference win of the season. It was a great team effort, and one player in particular really stood out. Lat Mayen had a career night.
Mayen tallied a career-high 25 points in 28 minutes of play. He went nine-of-11 from the field and five-of-seven from beyond the arc. His three-point shooting was extremely noticeable, and it gave Nebraska basketball a boost. He has been trying to find that shot the entire season, and he found it on Monday night. He was able to get into a nice rhythm and knock a couple of threes down early.

With his scoring prowess on Monday night, he was able to keep the Nebraska basketball offense in rhythm. He looked for the smart shot, and he took the open look.. That was certainly encouraging to see. He didn’t rush anything, he just assessed the shot and took it from there. Playing in control and calmly was important for him on Monday.
It was great to see him really find his game on Monday night, and he did it in a variety of ways. In addition to the three-point shooting, he also was able to score inside the paint. He moved well without the basketball, and that allowed him to get some easy looks at the hoop. All in all, it was a great night for him, and undoubtedly his best one as a member of the Nebraska basketball program.
I’ll be interested to see if he can parlay this into even bigger games in the future. Nebraska basketball is going to need every single player to be able to step up if they want to win these next couple of games. Mayen is a huge part of that, and I would expect them to play an even bigger role down the road.
This is the Lat Mayen that I thought we were getting at the beginning of the season. It is great to see him finally have a game like this. He was in the zone, and it looked like he was at shootaround on Monday night. I can’t wait to see what he does for a follow-up act on Thursday.
If his performance on Thursday is anything like it was on Monday, Nebraska basketball could have a chance at upsetting Iowa.
