Thor was an asset to Nebraska basketball.

Saturday was a fun day for Nebraska basketball as they were able to defeat Minnesota by a 78-74 score. It was also senior day for Nebraska’s eldest players, and one senior in particular is certainly going to be missed by me.

I first started covering the Nebraska basketball program in the 2018-19 season. It was an interesting year that saw Nebraska finish 19-17 on the year and make it to the second round of the NIT Tournament. That year was also my first introduction to Thorir Thorbjarnarson. I thought it was pretty cool that Nebraska had a player from Iceland on the team. He ended up finishing the year averaging two points per game. However I was intrigued by the effort that the freshman

showed on the court.

Over the past four seasons, he has been through multiple coaching changes, and yet still managed to be a productive player. He was never going to be an All-American, but he certainly gave a good effort for Nebraska. He always filled his role, and did it with a great amount of competitiveness. He always seemed to make a clutch shot here and there as well.

His best season statistically came in  2019-20. In was a down year for the program  he averaged 8.8 points per contest. He really was able to help out a struggling team in a big way. Who can forget his 17-point game against Iowa last year? That was certainly something special to watch.

Saturday, we saw his Nebraska career come somewhat full circle. He played his last game at The Vault, tallying 10 points on the afternoon. In addition to the 10 points, he also recorded four rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of play. His efforts helped Nebraska get their second conference win in two weeks. It was a fitting ending to a home career that was quite eventful.

I will certainly miss covering him next season. He was a lot of fun to watch for Nebraska basketball, and he always played his hardest. Coming to an entirely new country and playing some of the most competitive basketball that it has to offer is no small feat. He had to deal with all a lot on the court, and he always seemed to make the best of the situation. He stuck out a coaching change, and managed to produce all the same. He was exactly the type of player that you want to see on the Nebraska basketball program. He was a hard worker, who always gave it his all.

Thank you Thor, for being one of the first-ever players that I enjoyed while covering Nebraska basketball. Best of luck on your next chapter, and thank you for the memories.
