Nebraska football is kicking the tires on a local prospect.
Nebraska football is beginning to recruit for future classes, and that includes the 2023 group. Nebraska football is one of the programs interested in ($) Lincoln Southeast offensive tackle Gunnar Gottula.
Gottula is sort of an under-the-radar prospect. He is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite rankings nor is he ranked in the 247Sports regular rankings. Even still, he is getting interest from several Midwest schools. His only offer right now comes from Iowa State. However, the Huskers and Northwestern are also interested in him.

I was very impressed with him when I watched his highlights. Measuring in at six-foot-six, 250 pounds, he is very sound in several aspects of the game. He is very effective in terms of pass blocking, and he is able to win matchups against defensive lineman rather easily. He stays square, and does not move that much. He gives a quarterback ample time to throw in the pocket.
He is also very sound in terms of run-blocking. As soon as the ball is snapped, he extends his hands and is able to get the upper hand on his man. In his highlights, there were several goal-line plays where the offensive player was able to get into the end zone rather easily thanks to his blocking skills.
I’ll be interested to see if his recruitment extends beyond the Midwest. Alternatively, will this be a case where he only gets offers from the Midwest? In that case, that would undoubtedly favor the Nebraska football program. Although they have not extended an offer to him yet, his highlights certainly warrant Nebraska at least extending him an offer. They certainly have a ton of key pieces on the line for 2021, and they need to keep that pipeline of good offensive line prospects going.
Nebraska football certainly has time to recruit the 2023 class. Nevertheless, I like the fact that they are pursuing these prospects early. Many times, we have seen instances where schools who recruit a kid early end up being there in the end when the prospect announces his final schools.
Especially considering Gottula is a Nebraska kid, I would love to see him stay in-state and help continue building that pipeline Scott Frost and the program are beginning to create. Nebraska needs to continue to recruit and-state prospects hard, and getting him as an offensive line prospect would be a huge win for everybody involved in the recruitment process.
