Nebraska Basketball: Trey McGowens once again a bright spot in loss
McGowens contributed another good game for Nebraska basketball.
It was another tough game for Nebraska basketball on Thursday as they lost for the second time in less than a week to Illinois. However, there were some bright spots to take away from this game. One of them was the play of Trey McGowens.
In 26 minutes of play, he went seven-of-17 from the field and three-of-four from the free-throw line. Recording four rebounds and two steals, he tallied 18 points in total. This marked his highest point total in a game since he scored 20 against Michigan State on January 2.

He particularly carried play in the second half. At times, Nebraska was struggling to get anything going offensively. He provided the spark that they needed to at least make the game interesting. To the team’s credit, they continue to battle hard throughout the course of the game. Nevertheless, it was just not enough to defeat at Illinois team who has gotten hot down the stretch.
Aside from just impressive point totals, his consistency showed again on Thursday evening. In his last game against Penn State on Tuesday, he scored 17 points. He has been putting together consistent enough performances to the point where you can expect him to be your go-to-player every game.
He showed that ability again on Thursday, and it was fun to watch. He got into a nice little groove, and that allowed him to showcase his variety of skills. From shooting a quick shot, to driving to the lane, he was a source of consistent production for Nebraska. He made the game exciting.
Thursday was a microcosm of what he has done the entire season. In a rough game for the entire Nebraska basketball program, McGowens was a bright spot who managed to keep his team in it. It was fun to just watch him go to work in the second half.
The different ways in which he can score as well as how quickly he can get hot is impressive. I’ll be interested to see what he can do over the last couple of games of the season. This is a player who seems to perform even better as the stakes get higher.
