Nebraska Basketball: Teddy Allen’s injury something to watch carefully
This is an important development for Nebraska basketball.
The Nebraska basketball postgame press conference was very frustrating to listen to. Thursday was yet another tough result. Via coach Fred Hoiberg, we learned an interesting injury tidbit about one of Nebraska basketball’s offensive catalysts.
One interesting tidbit that did come out of the press conference is that Teddy Allen has been battling a right wrist issue for a while. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t have even known it.
Starting over the past couple of games, Allen has been playing at a high level. I mean, just look at what he did on Tuesday against Penn State. 41 points is nothing to scoff at, and it was truly a masterful performance.
He did have a rough game against Purdue, scoring only six points, but he performed much better against Maryland, scoring 25 in the second game of a back-to-back series.
For reference, Allen recorded five points four rebounds and an assist in 20 minutes of play on Thursday night against Illinois. He certainly did not look like himself.
This new revelation about a wrist injury is something I’m going to watch very closely heading into the next couple games. He has been on a hot streak of the last couple of games, and his production is something that Nebraska basketball is going to need heading into the Big Ten tournament. The fact that he is suffering a wrist injury is difficult. I can imagine there has to be some hesitancy on his part when he puts up a shot.
Hopefully this is a type of injury that does not affect him too much. Nebraska does have some secondary scoring options. Trey McGowens is a great example of that. He has been helping carry the load offensively. Even still, Allen is the leading scorer for this team, averaging 17.8 points per game. He is somebody that they look to when they need a jolt offensively.
With the way he has been playing lately, this could be a major problem for Nebraska basketball. If he is not 100%over the next couple of weeks, this season could end even quicker than originally anticipated.
