Nebraska football made a wise promotion here.

It seems like Nebraska football has been making a ton of staff changes, as they look to find the right formula to lead to wins. Wednesday night, they made another move. Nebraska promoted off-field staffer Ron Brown to the role of senior offensive analyst.

Brown certainly has experience with this edition of the Nebraska football program. He has been part of Scott Frost’s staff since December 2017, when Frost took over. He was most recently the director of player development for the program. Marcus Castro-Walker now has that role.

As a report from the Lincoln Journal-Star notes, Brown can be involved in things like meetings, and developing plays in schemes. He cannot be on the field.

Brown is unique in the sense that he has experienced Nebraska football from another point of view. He was a part of the Nebraska football program from 2008-2014. Many of the athletes that went through Nebraska during that timeframe were incredible.

I like Brown in this role, as I think he will add another layer to the offensive playcalling. This is crucial, as something needs to be done to spark the offense. What we saw last year was very disorganized and wildly inconsistent. That cannot be the case again if Nebraska wants to win. Having somebody like Brown who know the ins and outs of the program as well as how to draw up scheme will be incredibly important.

My hope is that he will have a big role for this program. I am usually not a huge fan of having a lot of coaches or personnel contribute with one thing. However, Nebraska football needs a spark out of this offense, and they have had trouble getting that as of late. Maybe having another mind in the room will be able to help.

When you look at what he has done during his time at Nebraska, he has worked with the tight ends as well as the running backs. He knows what it takes to make an offense successful. He also knows how those players work positionally. Nebraska football seem to get the tight end zone bit more involved at the tail end of last season. With the weapons that they have coming in, they would be wise to continue that trend.

If anything, it seems like Brown is walking into an ideal situation heading into 2021. I can’t wait to see what he does with the tools that he has at his disposal.
