Nebraska football continues to add to the coaching staff.

Nebraska football sure has had a busy offseason, and that continued late Monday as they added three new additions to the coaching staff. You have heard me talk about Marcus Castro-Walker a little bit. However, they added two other names as well.

One name might sound familiar. Bill Busch was hired by the Nebraska football program as a defensive analyst. He has been in Lincoln before. He served as a full-time assistant to Bill Callahan  from 2004-2007. He also served on Tom Osborne’s staff from 1990-1993 as a graduate assistant. Simply put, he knows Nebraska football and he knows  it well.

The other hire that Nebraska football made was Keanon Lowe. He will serve the role of  offensive analyst. He certainly has experience in the college football ranks, as he spent 2020 with UCLA. He also played for Frost at Oregon when Frost was the offensive coordinator. He appeared in 46 games at Oregon from 2011-2014 and was a big part of why the Ducks made it to the title game of the inaugural College Football Playoff.

Some of you may also recognize his name from a national perspective. In 2019, he stopped a high school shooter in Oregon while working as a security guard at  the school.

The two newest additions to the football program make a ton of sense to me. Busch knows what Nebraska football is like, having seen it from several perspectives throughout his time on several coaching staffs.  Lowe knows  what Frost is like from playing under him. The combination of those two could be very effective.

Not only that, we are seeing more and more analyst  roles within football programs.  Given the track record of these two, these hires seem like no-brainers. Both of them have extensive knowledge of the game and specific areas. That certainly has to count for something. All of them know what it takes to win, and both of them know how to perform under pressure. This is something that the Nebraska football program has not been accustomed to over the past couple of seasons.

Although Frost has remained committed to staying with his 10 assistant coaches, he is at least trying to shuffle things around a bit. I have to give him credit for that, especially since I blasted him for keeping the coaching staff intact. I’m excited about these two new additions, and they will certainly help the Nebraska football program moving forward.
