Nebraska Football: Huskers going South in pursuit of 2022 quarterback
Nebraska football continues to recruit quarterbacks.
As Nebraska football continues to work on the 2022 class, they have a quarterback on their radar. Nebraska football offered dual-threat quarterback Conner Harrell on Tuesday.
Harrell is not rated in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but his offer list is growing. Currently, he has offers from Appalachian State, Duke, Liberty, Louisville, and Nebraska.
What can Harrell bring to the table as a quarterback? When I was watching his highlights, I noticed his quick release. As soon as the ball was snapped, he identified his target and threw it. He also had a quick release motion which helped link up the timing with receivers. The ball came out of his hand in a very fluid motion.
In addition, he also did a very good job of scrambling out of the pocket. This allowed for him to buy more time when he threw as well as made him a run threat.
This is where he would fit well in the Nebraska football offense. Scott Frost has made it a point to get scrambling quarterbacks. Harrell is certainly no exception. Not only that, he has a very good arm, and can throw deep passes with ease. This is something that Nebraska football quarterbacks have not been able to do in the past.
In addition to just skills that you can see on a highlight reel, he also has the numbers to back them up. As a junior last season, he recorded 3,560 yards and 42 touchdowns to only three interceptions. As a junior at Thompson High, the Alabaster, Ala. native completed more than 73% of his passes. The accuracy is certainly something to note, as Nebraska football quarterbacks have struggled with that over the past couple of seasons.
Nebraska football has always seemed to make a point to try and get quarterbacks within each class overall. Harrell would certainly fit the bill of what they are looking for, and he would fit into the Nebraska offense. Especially with how the offense became up-tempo over the final couple of games last season, he could be a real good fit.
I’ll be interested to see where his recruitment goes, as I have a feeling he will be highly sought after. It is still early in the 2022 class and Nebraska has done some of their best work towards the end of recruiting cycles. Nevertheless, dual-threat quarterbacks are becoming a valuable commodity right now, so they may want to act quickly.
