Nebraska football got a legacy walk-on Monday night,

As we all know, Nebraska football is a good job at developing its walk-on program. Monday night, they received a legacy walk-on. Defensive back Michael Booker III announced he was joining the team on Monday night, and if that name sounds familiar to you, you are definitely onto something.

He is the son of former Husker defender Michael Booker. Booker went on to play for five seasons in the National Football League for the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.

When I take a look at his highlights, a couple of things I noticed are his speed and length. Measuring in at six-foot-one, his Hudl profile indicates that he has an 80-inch wingspan. That alone should be able to come in handy.

In a couple of the highlights I saw, he did great in pursuit. That’s where his speed was most evident. Whether it be pursuing a ballcarrier, or pursuing a quarterback off the edge, he excelled in both situations. That versatility could come in handy.

I can certainly see him being a special teams returner for Nebraska, as well as a possible slot corner. He has the speed and the length to fill that spot. In addition, he is very strong in pursuit. Those two things alone should make him stand out among the rest of the walk-on class.

Nebraska has a very talented walk-on class for 2021. With 20 players in all, there is talent on both sides of the football. Now, I’ll be interested to see where all this talent lands. Given how Nebraska football has taken some hits in the secondary over the past couple of seasons, I could see Booker being able to make the roster.

I’ll be interested to see how he is used and how his speed is taken advantage of. I certainly think that the coaching staff will be able to use him, and I don’t think he’s going to be a player that just disappears out of this walk-on class. I truly believe he will be able to make an impact. He may not make headlines, but I definitely think he’ll be able to be a serviceable player.
