Nebraska football is in the mix for a playmaking tight end.

On Monday, the Nebraska football program made the top six for 2022 four-star tight end Carsen Ryan.

Ryan is the 11th overall tight end in his class, and the second overall player in his class from the state of Utah  per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. In addition to Nebraska, Ryan also has BYU, UCLA, Washington, Colorado, and Virginia on his list.

Most recently, Ryan was offered by Kansas on September 1, 2020.

Measuring in at six-foot-four, 235 pounds, I was impressed with what I saw on his film. He has a long reach, and can make things happen after the catch. He is not your typical slow, lumbering tight end. He is a playmaker who has speed and size. As long as you throw the ball near him, he can catch it.

When you look at what Nebraska football is trying to do with the tight ends in the 2021 class, Ryan is certainly of a similar mold. He is not your typical rugged, blocking, tight end. He is a player that will be able to make plays and prove to be extremely valuable in any offense he is in. He fits very well to today’s game of football. He can make plays, and his size using the ability to be a major receiving threat.

As it stands right now, Nebraska has no commitments in the 2022 recruiting class. However, the building blocks are definitely there, and I would not be surprised to see some players commit soon. Especially with the 2021 class, you are beginning to see the types of players the program wants to recruit. Now, it’s all about building off that.

I’ll be interested to see what comes of his recruitment. The fact that Nebraska made his top six list of teams is certainly encouraging. It may possibly be a testament to the job that Nebraska is doing in recruiting the tight end position. Nebraska football has begun to make the position a focus, and it seems like players are starting to realize that.
