Nebraska football got another key player back on Friday.

Another member of the Nebraska football defense is coming back to Lincoln. Friday, defensive end Ben Stille announced he would return to the program for a fifth season.

This season, Stille was a key component of the Nebraska football defense. You have heard me talk all throughout this offseason about improvement on the defensive unit. Stille was one of the guys  who improved drastically. He had a great season, recording 13 tackles and a sack and a half.

Perhaps his best game came against Penn State on November 13. In that contest, he recorded three tackles and a sack. The sack was the key play of the game, and it gave Nebraska football their first win of the season. It was great to see him be able to bring a ton of energy on that play, and he certainly came up big when the program needed it the most.

Not only did he perform well on the field, he was recognized off it. Pro Football Focus named him to their defensive line team, a testament to how hard Stille worked in the 2020 season. He didn’t necessarily generate headlines, but he did try his best every single time he was out there.

This marks yet another Nebraska football defensive player that is coming back. The defensive line and defense in general is going to be loaded for 2021. With the struggle that the offense had last year, the veteran experience on that side of the football may prove to be extremely important.

In addition to just being a veteran, he also brings energy. We saw it not only in his career day against Penn State, but throughout the entire season. I feel like I referred to this in all of my articles, but it’s true. This defense trended upward last season, and having another player who was part of that trend is key. Now, Stille will help work on continuing to help the unit improve.

I love the outlook of this defense for 2021. The veteran talent that is coming back is truly unbelievable. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen so many players on one side of the  football come back. I’m excited to see the numbers Stille will put up with a full season under his belt. He should help stabilize the defensive line, and give the Nebraska football defense another player that they can count on every Saturday.

dark. Next. Key thoughts on addition of Markese Stepp

This defense is loaded with talent, and now it’s going to be all about execution.
