Some more good news came Nebraska football’s way.

In what has been a wild week of movement for Nebraska football, some good news came on Wednesday. Marquel Dismuke announced he would return to the team, coming back for his fifth season of play.

Last year, he tallied 47 tackles and three pass deflections. He was a key part of the Nebraska football secondary and he certainly added some veteran leadership to the defense. His best game came on November 27 against Iowa. In that contest, he recorded seven tackles.

His best year statistically to this point came in 2019. He recorded 67 tackles and a fumble recovery. He truly showed his defensive prowess. In addition to being a key part of the defense, he cemented himself as a leader as well.

When you consider is durability, that makes his return that much more important. He played 536 snaps this past season. That was third behind JoJo Domann who had 575, and DiCaprio Bootle who had 538.

The fact that he is coming back is huge. The defense is going to have a nice combination of veterans and younger players.  A guy like  Dismuke can help teach the younger guys the ropes. With so many of the veteran defensive players coming back for another year, having veterans that can teach the younger players the ins and outs of the defense will be huge. This will make it easier for the defense to have a smoother transition once the younger guys take the lead.

With a veteran group coming back in the secondary, it’s going to be much easier for the defense to figure out game plans and have faith and who they are putting out there. The defense took some major steps last season, and it’s great that a veteran group is returning to build on that. Travis Fisher will certainly have a lot to work with/

This is tremendous news for Nebraska football, and it certainly makes them more prepared heading into the 2021 season. I’ll be interested to see who else decides to return. There has been a lot of movement this off-season not only for Nebraska football, but in the entire college football landscape.

Next. Key thoughts on addition of Markese Stepp. dark

Thankfully, a lot of Nebraska’s core guys are staying with the program. With the schedule that Nebraska has, this can only bode well for 2021.
