Reimer made the most of his opportunities for Nebraska football in 2020.

You’ve heard me talk all week about the young talent that Nebraska football possesses at linebacker. There are undoubtedly some very good players at the position. One of the players who certainly deserves his due is Luke Reimer.

Reimer really burst onto the scene this year. He really showed what he could bring the table. He was aggressive when he played, he always seemed to go after the quarterback, and he was able to give the Nebraska football program an unlikely spark. Whenever it seemed like the rest of the defense was tired, he brought the energy.

More from Husker Corner

Between the younger players, and guys like JoJo Domann, Reimer’s name got lost in the shuffle. He certainly made his name reappear in the linebacker conversation this year. He was certainly a welcome and pleasant surprise at the position. It’s not that I didn’t think he had talent, he just flew under the radar a bit.

On the year, he recorded 40 tackles and five tackles for a loss. He had a huge breakout game against Iowa. In that contest, he recorded 12 tackles and showed all of the key hallmarks of his game. His aggressiveness and vision were both on display. His play was certainly a bright spot in what was an otherwise difficult day.

He got his feet wet in 2019, totaling 11 tackles on the year. Now, heading into 2020, it was a question of whether he could put it all together. He certainly did. The Lincoln native shot off the ball as soon as it was snapped, and always seemed to be in the middle of plays.

For all the young talent, that Nebraska football has at the linebacker position, Reimer is somebody that I’m really looking forward to seeing next year. He showed what he was capable of, and he can be a very good linebacker. Particularly on the third-and-long situations where the quarterback needs to be pressured, that’s when you see his skills come into play.

I am very interested to see what he does in his third year. Although he may not come with the pedigree of some of the other younger linebackers, he definitely deserves a spot on the field. He is the quintessential Nebraska football player and his high motor serves him well on a defense that asks a lot of its linebackers.

dark. Next. Top five plays from unique 2020 season

With the way he plays, he could make some legitimate noise in the box scores next year.
