The schedule for what should have been Nebraska volleyball’s 2020 season is out.
The Big Ten postponed all fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that included Nebraska volleyball, which will now begin its season in January. Fans are giddy with excitement to see this team in action and now we have an idea of what this season will look like.
Nebraska’s schedule was released on Tuesday and because of the pandemic, this season will obviously look much different. Teams will spend one weekend at the same site and play two games there, typically on Fridays and Saturdays. The Huskers’ season opens on Jan. 22 with a pair of away games at Indiana.

The next weekend is Nebraska’s home opener, which will take place on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 against Northwestern. If fans are allowed in the arena, expect Megan Miller to get a big round of applause, as she transferred from Nebraska to Northwestern this past offseason.
Nebraska remains at home the weekend of Feb. 5 to host Maryland before hitting the road to play Rutgers. To this point, the Huskers haven’t played any of the big dogs in the conference, but that’s on the horizon, as they’ll host Minnesota the weekend of Feb. 19 and follow that up with a trip to Wisconsin on Feb. 26.
Nebraska stays on the road to play Illinois the next weekend, then returns home for a date with Ohio State. They have a home and away matchup with Iowa on March 17 (Iowa City) and March 20 (Lincoln) before closing out their season on the road at Michigan and then finishing the regular season out at home against hated rival Penn State.
The season goes from Jan. 22 – April 2 and then begins tournament play, which the Huskers always excel in. It’ll be a different looking tournament this year and if the National Championship is still in Omaha, it won’t be nearly as big of an advantage without fans in the stands. We all know how much Nebraska sports feed off the Big Red faithful, so hopefully, there’s a way for some fans to attend the matches safely.
2020 has been a tough year and not having Nebraska volleyball was salt in the wound for sure. Fortunately, the team will be taking the court in just a few weeks and it’s going to be a good time. Go Big Red!
