Nebraska football may have what they are looking for in Hardy.

There is no doubt that Nebraska football is going to have some talent in the wide receiving room in the coming years. One of the receivers who I haven’t really touched on is Shawn Hardy. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 190 pounds, the three-star recruit was offered by Nebraska football on May 29, and signed the same day.

He had 44 catches for 782 yards and 10 touchdowns for Camden County in 2019. Now, he looks to take his talents to the Nebraska football program.

More from Husker Corner

One of the things I really liked from watching his film was how he made quick decisions after the catch. He didn’t hesitate or try to do anything too fancy. He just caught the ball and ran upfield. His speed allows him to be able to be elusive and yet still physical after the catch.

When you take a look at the current Nebraska football wide receiving room, there isn’t a whole lot. This is why I believe the 2021 class is extremely important. I think that many of these guys will be able to find their way onto the field sooner rather than later. If nothing else, lack of depth Nebraska football has at the position will allow for some of the newcomers to be able to make an impact right away.

In a piece written by Brian Christopherson of 247 sports, Bob Sphire,  Hardy’s high school coach, had nothing but praise for him. Hardy put together a solid high school career that included over 3,000 career receiving yards high school and 80 total catches. It’s safe to say that the praise was certainly warranted, given what he was able to do for Camden.

"“He tracks the deep ball about as good as any kid I’ve ever had,” said Sphire, adding that his length could make him a potentially good corner too. “But he’s going to be a big-time college receiver. He’s huge in our special teams, he’s been starting since his sophomore year and he’s a super smart kid, really high character. And he was one of our eight offseason leaders voted on by our players that we call our challenge teams.”"

It sounds like Hardy has all the prerequisites of being a Nebraska football player. I have discussed before how the 2021 class wants to make a difference and change the culture of the program. It seems like players like Hardy will be able to do that.

Next. The 2021 class is going to be special. dark

Only time will tell if Hardy will be able to make an impact. However, he has the potential to be an asset to what is right now a thin wide receiving room. My guess is, it won’t be thin for long.
