Stille was an important part of the Nebraska football defense.

More accolades keep coming in for members of the Nebraska football program, and Tuesday, defensive lineman Ben Stille  was named to the Pro Football Focus First-Team Big Ten defensive line. he joins Haskell Garrett, Jonathan Cooper, and Kwity Paye as the members on the defensive line.

He had a good season for Nebraska, as he recorded 27 tackles and 1.5 sacks on the season. In terms of his best game of the season, that came against Purdue. In what was a 37-27 win for the program, he recorded five tackles and 1.5 sacks.

If you look at his statistics, they were solid overall throughout the entirety of the season. He recorded at least three tackles in six of the eight games he played. The week before the Purdue game, he also recorded five tackles against Iowa. He really played well this season, and although he did not put up any big-time numbers, he was a solid player on a defense that struggled at times.

In particular, he was able to add a layer of seniority to a defense that was new in some areas . You knew what type of game you were going to get from him week in and week out, and that was certainly a plus in a season full of unexpected surprises. He was as tough a player as they come, and he never gave up on a play.

I’ll be interested to see if he comes back, and if he does, that would be a great asset to the defense. He is definitely deserving of this latest accolade, as he undoubtedly made major contributions to Nebraska football while he was on the field. I’m happy to see that he is getting the recognition he deserves, especially after what was a trying year for all involved.

I had a hunch that he might have a big year and I was correct. In what was a down year for everybody overall, he has something to hang his hat on.
