One of the future stars of Nebraska football likes where the position is going.

As Nebraska football looks to get ready to welcome future classes, one particular commitment is still strong. 2021 tight and Thomas Fidone is still committed to Nebraska football. It sounds like he is in it for the long haul.

As far as what’s happening on the field right now, Nebraska has been using their tight ends moreso than they did last season.

More from Husker Corner

The trio of Austin Allen, Jack Stoll, and Travis Vokolek has really kind of helped Nebraska establish the tight end position once again. This was something that didn’t happen last year, and it was almost as if the tight end position was just an extra spot on the field.

That does not seem to be the case this year, and I have been particularly impressed with the play of Austin Allen. Allen has helped spread the field, and has been a reliable option for the quarterbacks. Granted, it’s not just Allen who has been playing well, All three have been tremendous assets to the program. Compared to how the program used the tight end position last year, it’s night and day.

Fidone sees this, and he is ready to come in and contribute. When I think about the things that he can do in this offense, it seems like a perfect fit. He still continues to talk to the coaches all the time, and he is impressed with the way that Nebraska’s tight ends have been developing. In speaking with the media on Monday, he talked a little bit about what Nebraska has been able to do to utilize the position effectively.

"“Absolutely, Nebraska has used the tight end to get some down the field shots,” he said. “Jack and Austin have done a great job of that. Right now I think Nebraska’s tight ends look even a little better than Iowa’s tight ends. In the game they just played (Nov. 27) Nebraska looked just as good and obviously Iowa has great tight ends. They’re tight end university.“I think they’ve been doing a great job and coach Sean Beckton is a big part of that too.”"

I certainly agree with him here. I think that Beckton has been a huge help for the tight ends this year. He has really taught them, in my estimation, how to fit in this offense, and how to utilize their skill sets.

The proclamation that Nebraska football’s tight ends are better than Iowa is something that caught my attention too. It’s a bold one. That quote is something that will endear him to Nebraska fans right away.

Next. Fidone could transform offense. dark

In any event, it sounds like the bond between Fidone and the Nebraska football coaching staff is as strong as ever. This is certainly great to hear, considering that he figures to be a huge part of the Nebraska offense. I can’t wait till he gets here, and he should make this offense that much better.
