Nebraska basketball could not get things going on this night.

It must be something about mid-week basketball.  In last week’s slow start against South Dakota, Nebraska was able to recover from it and come away with the victory. On Wednesday night, that was simply not the case.

Nebraska did not have much going for them on Tuesday night. For starters, they turned the ball over 16 times to Georgia Tech’s nine. They also shot 37.7% on the field in comparison to Georgia Tech’s 44.8% from the field.

Some of Nebraska basketball’s top scorers just could not get things going on this night. Teddy Allen struggled, going four-of-16 from the field and missing all five shots from behind the arc. So too did Dalano Banton. He went six-of-15 from the field and made only one three-point shot. Even Trey McGowens, who is usually steady in terms of what he brings to the table was two-of-nine on the night.

Perhaps the biggest thing I noticed about is a Wednesday’s game was the turnovers. Nebraska basketball just not seem to take care of the rock, and it certainly contributed to their struggles. Whether it was just trying to pass the ball to a teammate, or trying to make the flashy pass, they just could not seem to connect. Of course, turnovers are a part of running a high-octane offense. However, is certainly something Nebraska can clean up

Again, Banton struggled in this category as well, as he led the team with five turnovers in this game. He has been a spark plug off the bench for the program, but it was not to be on this night. This was pretty much the story for the entire team. They were not in  rhythm, and it showed. There were flashes of them playing at a high level, but they couldn’t put it all together.

For a team that has looked so sure of itself, and confident in the way it has played, Nebraska basketball did not look good on this night. With Creighton coming up on the schedule next, Nebraska basketball will undoubtedly have to clean somethings up if they want to have success on Friday. Creighton is not a team that you can afford to make mistakes against. Nebraska will have to be on top of their game.

I’ll be interested to see how they come out after a loss. One loss does not mean a whole lot in the entire season. However, I did see some things that worried me on Wednesday night. Hopefully, they won’t rear their ugly head again on Friday.
