Webster is proving to be a key piece for Nebraska basketball.

Despite Nebraska basketball’s loss to Georgia Tech on Wednesday night, there was something that I really liked from the game. The play of Kobe Webster was one of the only bright spots, and it allowed Nebraska basketball to get some production off the bench.

Webster scored 20 points on 77.8% shooting. In addition, he shot at an 85.7% clip from beyond the arc. This was his highest scoring output of the season, and was a welcome contribution in an otherwise dismal night.

When you look at what he has done this season so far, he has been very consistent. Aside from his four-point game against North Dakota State on November 28, he has put up double digits in each game he has played. Last Tuesday against South Dakota, he scored 11 points. In the team’s opener against McNeese State, he had 13. He then followed that up with another 13-performance against Nevada.

He has been a really solid player off the bench, and that’s exactly what you want. Obviously, you want your starters to be able to play at a high level. However, having bench guys that can come in and not suffer from too much of a drop off in production as a team is ideal. That’s exactly what he has been able to provide, and it’s been a welcome contribution.

Webster needs to keep up this type of play once conference play begins in January. That’s when the depth of Nebraska basketball is really going to be tested. Nebraska is going to need everybody to play at a high level, I believe Webster can do that. He has shown he has been able to deliver with consistency.

It was great to see him be able to come in and deliver another solid performance. On a night where the entire team struggled, he helped keep them in the game. As a coach and a fan that’s all you can ask for. If he can keep this up with consistency, he will undoubtedly be a key piece moving forward.
