Nebraska Football: Cam Jurgens needed a game like Saturday
Jurgens had a huge game on a personal level for Nebraska Football.
As Nebraska won their football game against Purdue by a 37-27 margin, several players made a huge impact. One player in particular redeemed himself after a rough week against Iowa, and made a tremendous impact not seen on the stat sheet. Cam Jurgens played well on Saturday, and it was great to see.
The center had a tough time snapping the football against Iowa last week, and it stalled several Nebraska football drives. You could tell at one point in the game last week that Jurgens just was not right, and that the poor snaps were getting into his head a bit. On Saturday, that was not the case.

Jurgens was very much in time with Adrian Martinez, and snapped every ball pretty well. I was really encouraged to see this, because it allowed for the Nebraska football offensive drives to continue without a hitch. As a result, that that kept Martinez and the rest of the receivers in rhythm. This was important, as Martinez has proven to be a rhythm quarterback.
It may seem like a small thing, and you may be thinking “Of course he snapped it right, that’s his job.” However, this has been a problem the entire season. Lately, it has seemed like on certain drives or in certain situations of a game, Jurgens has gotten into a bit of a rut when he snaps the football. On Saturday, he made it look seamless.
That rut that Jurgens has gotten into often this season did not occur on Saturday. This was a game he needed to have, and I bet he increased his confidence quite a bit. Hopefully, Nebraska will have another game for him to showcase his skills. If not, he ended the season on a good note.
I’ve been hard on him this season. I have publicly said that Nebraska football needs to find another center. I kept waiting for an unfortunately poor snap in a key situation. However, it never happened. He stayed steady and consistent throughout the game.
I have to hand it to him. He made me eat my words for this game. Hopefully, he will be able to build off of this.
In what was a day where several things seem to go right for Nebraska football, the play of Jurgens was one of them. it was long overdue, and I loved seeing him succeed. Jurgens needed a day like Saturday, and the program needed a day like Saturday. The win was the icing on the cake, as several smaller victories were achieved.
