Nebraska Basketball: Dalano Banton shines in season-opening rout
Banton played well for Nebraska Basketball.
In case you missed it, Nebraska basketball won their opening game on Wednesday. Not only did they win the opening game, they won it convincingly. There were many standout performances on Wednesday, and one of them was Danilo Banton.
Earlier this month, I talked about the potential that he had and what he could bring to the table for the program. Wednesday, he showed a little bit of that potential. In 22 minutes of play, he went four-of-seven from the field and tallied six total rebounds. He recorded two on the offense of glass, and four on the defensive glass.

In any event, I really liked what I saw from him on Wednesday. His defensive intensity was very noticeable, and he made each possession count. He had four blocks and three steals defensively in addition to his 14 points. He did a little bit of everything for Nebraska basketball. He drove to the hoop with purpose, and he also never gave up on a play. The intensity was there every single possession, and his driving ability to the hoop was impressive.
He has shown this type of potential before, as he put together a solid season for Western Kentucky in 2018-19. It was great to see him able to translate his play style over to the Nebraska basketball program on Wednesday, and he gave them the lift that they desperately needed. I was looking for other players to really make an impact in this game, and they did too. I was pleasantly surprised by Banton’s ability to make his presence known.
If he is going to bring this type of scrappy play style along with efficient scoring, he is going to be an immediate asset to the Nebraska basketball program. He fits in with the team nicely, and the way he plays also fits in with the defensive style that Nebraska basketball is trying to employ. They needed to have this type of player last year, and they just did not have it. However, that looks to change this year.
It will be interesting to see if he can keep this up for Nebraska not only on Thursday, but for the course of the season. He brings a little bit of everything you this basketball team, and it’s great to see. Earlier today , I called him my dark horse candidate for this season. If he keeps playing like the way he did on Wednesday, he will be able to fill that moniker and more.
