The Nebraska football linebacker had a solid career in Lincoln.

On Monday, Nebraska football head coach delivered a somber prognosis for senior linebacker Collin Miller.

Miller is dealing with a spinal concussion. This is something that causes temporary sensory impairment and motor weakness. He is unlikely to play the rest of the season.

It is a tough ending for a linebacker who had a pretty good Nebraska football career. He began in the 2017 season, tallying 11 tackles.

From there, he saw his numbers increase, as he recorded 17 tackles in 2008. 2019 was his big breakout year. In addition to recording 67 tackles, he also recorded a sack and two forced fumbles.

He had several solid games as a member of the Nebraska football program. In 2019, he recorded 10 tackles in a loss to Minnesota. This year, he recorded 10 tackles in the win over Penn State.

Another huge game for him came against Maryland last year. In what was a 54-7 win for Nebraska, he recorded six tackles and a sack as well as a fumble recovery. He truly did it all that game for Nebraska in what was a great day overall for the program.

I’m really sad to see his season and career end this way. He didn’t put up the flashiest of numbers, but he added veteran depth to the linebacker position. With so many young linebackers coming into the fold this year, that depth was helpful. I always referred to him as a big piece of the linebacker group, as Miller along with Will Honas were two huge senior leaders of the linebacker position.

In any event, I am happy that he was able to be at practice Monday and around his teammates. In what has been a tough season for many, Miller has certainly been dealt a bad hand. Now, it is time for the younger linebackers to be able to step up and play at a high level. Nebraska football certainly has a lot of talented linebackers on the roster for not only right now, but in the future.

In the meantime, I would look for somebody like JoJo Domann to be able to step up. Domann has been having a good year, and had a season-high six tackles against Illinois. It certainly will not be easy to fill the locker room void left by Miller, and I hope he sticks around with the team for the rest of the season. No matter how this season may be trending, a senior season is always special.
