Light at the End of the Tunnel?
By Paul Gornick
Nebraska Football has light at the end of the tunnel.
Whew…… That was close, to close. But in the end, Nebraska Football prevailed over a struggling but very talented Penn State team. I’m happy to say I called this one, and hopefully I’m right about this as well, has the Nebraska Football program turned the corner? Possibly. Before we get excited I will admit that this was one singular game and one singularity ugly win.
However in years and weeks past this is a game Nebraska would have lost. We must also take into consideration entering this season Penn State was a top ten team, despite being 0-3 entering play they are still a team worth respecting.

One reason to believe that the Penn State win could serve as a turning point for the Nebraska program is that this win, filled with grit, determination and want followed a gut wrenching loss to Northwestern. This showed great character in both the players and the coaching staff.
The remaining games for Nebraska footba;; this season are Illinois, Iowa, Purdue and Minnesota. Iowa and Minnesota pose the more difficult challenges, but both similar to many programs in the Big 10 have regressed from their form last season and none of these teams are as talented or well coached as the Nittany Lions.
I don’t believe that this game alone can singularly get Nebraska back on the road to being a powerhouse, but I do believe it is a sizable step in the right direction. If they can translate this win into a winning record this season, that would do wonders for the program.
Recruiting after a winning season, as a team on the rise in the Big 10 West will help to bring top talent to Lincoln. A winning season will also instill a sense of stability in the program, team and fanbase. For the team knowing they are getting better, for the coaching staff knowing that they will continue to be in their positions and have something positive to build off of and for the fans who may be able to look to the future with the possibility of success on the horizon.
With the remaining games all winnable the Huskers could be in for their first winning season since 2016 serving as a definitive sign the program is back on track under coach Frost. So lets as fans look forward with hope and promise that this gritty win in an empty Memorial Stadium will be the first step back in the right direction.
