Betts is making his mark for Nebraska Football.

One of the things that I noticed in the win for Nebraska football on Saturday was the play of freshman wide receiver Zavier Betts. He made an impact immediately, and it was evident the skill set that he brings to the table.

He had already gotten some action for Nebraska football in the game against Northwestern. In that contest, he caught two passes 17 yards. On Saturday, he began to showcase his skill set even more. He caught two passes for 54 yards  including a nice 45-yard reverse play.

On that particular play, I was thrilled to see the amount of speed he had. As soon as he found the open field, he ran into the end zone for the touchdown. It made me think of the things he could potentially do on the outside or in the slot. Either way, Nebraska football has a special player on their hands. They could potentially run a ton of different plays with Betts. That just gives another wrinkle to the offense.

In speaking to the media following the game, he talked about how excited he is be a part of the Nebraska football program. His comments were insightful in the sense that he really thought about how hard he has been working since he got to Lincoln.

I honestly love to hear this, because it shows me that he wants to be here, and he wants to be a part of what Scott Frost is building with this program. The same could not be said for certain players last year.

"“It’s been a grind since Day 1, and I’ve been busting my ass this whole time,” he said. “It’s been a lot of fun. I’m glad to be here. It’s been an honest grind the whole time that I’ve been here, and getting my first couple of plays on the field, I wouldn’t even say I was nervous. I was more excited than anything.“I wanted to be on the field, I wanted to get out there and I wanted to show everybody that I could do it.”"

His hard work is starting to show. Not only is he getting reps as a freshman, he is making an impact. Over the past couple of seasons, we have not necessarily seen Nebraska football freshman get the chance to play. It appears that is changing with the 2020 class this year. Especially with the new redshirt rule instituted this year because of the pandemic, Betts could be a fixture for Nebraska for quite a while.

They say you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Betts is making the most of the opportunities he has been given.
