Nebraska basketball will be down a member.

Nebraska basketball is going to be without a player for the upcoming season. Sophomore Akol Arop will miss the entire season after undergoing knee surgery.

He had an arthroscopic in the procedure done due to chronic issues with his left knee. According to Nebraska basketball trainer RJ  Pietig, Arop is expected to make a full recovery.

This is extremely disappointing to hear just because Arop several things to the table. He had length and the ability to make shots. He didn’t see much playing time at the beginning of last season, but he did manage to see some action down the stretch. His 23 minutes and two blocked shots against Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament were both  highs for him.

I would have been interested to see what he would’ve done this season. Given how the Nebraska basketball program is built, he probably would not have received much playing time this season either. However, his length and size are two things that Nebraska basketball is missing right now. He could’ve at least brought that aspect of the game to the team.

It remains to be seen if Nebraska basketball will even play this year. However, they should still figure to put out a competitive roster even with so much turnover. One thing that Nebraska basketball has going for them during these rebuilds is that they are able to fill their team with talented scoring players.

Hopefully, Arop will be in a position where he can continue to compete next year. Nebraska basketball has a decently sized senior class this year, so that could lend itself to more playing time for him down the road.

Whatever the case may be, I wish him well and best of luck in his recovery. I certainly wish he could be out there on the court.
