Could Nebraska football make some changes on offense before Saturday?

As Nebraska football is searching for answers heading into the third week against Penn State,  the Nebraska football coaching staff has made it known that nobody has a guaranteed spot on the field. If anything, jobs are up for grabs.

In addition to the growing sentiment that the quarterback position needs to be changed, we could see some changes at wide receiver as well. This is certainly an interesting development given that Nebraska football has not managed to get a ton of production out of the wide receivers as of late. To put that statement into perspective, Wan’Dale Robinson leads the team in receiving yards with 81.

More from Husker Corner

As Nebraska football to get their first win of the season, it will be interesting to see what type of changes we see on the offensive side of the football on Saturday. At this point, Nebraska football needs to do something before it’s too late.

The Huskers still have a shot at salvaging their season and going 6-2 at the worst. However, the schedule does not get any easier. If anything, this game against Penn State is a winnable contest.

Matt Lubick spoke to the media on Tuesday, and indicated that several positions are up for grabs for Nebraska. Honestly, this is what I like to hear. There has been too little production and not enough impact playmaking to win football games. Speaking about just last Saturday, Nebraska lost a winnable football game.

"“You could make an argument that you’d like to have a clear-cut 1, but you can also make the argument that you’d like to have two good quarterbacks that are ready to play. … And it’s not just the quarterback position. We’ve got really good competition going on at the receiver position. We’re changing some things at the offensive line. We’ve got competition at every position,” the coach said."

The comment about the quarterbacks is very interesting. It makes me wonder who we will see under center on Saturday. There is no denying that Luke McCaffrey gave the team a spark when they needed it most. However, I would love to see Adrian Martinez get back on track and play at a high level. We know he can do that, it’s just a matter of execution.

Next. Three Nittany Lions to watch out for. dark

It will be interesting to see who Nebraska rolls out there out on Saturday afternoon. There is no denying that change may be needed. What that change will look like however is still uncertain.
