Nebraska football picked up a big commitment on Saturday.

Nebraska football was able to pick up a major commitment on Saturday night, as they landed 2021 defensive lineman Jailen Weaver.

Weaver is the 48th overall weak-side defensive end in the 2021 class, and the 74th overall player in his class from the state of California per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

In addition to Nebraska, Weaver also had offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, and Fresno State. He was recruited to Lincoln by Tony Tuioti.

One of the first things I noticed when I watched his film was how fast he moves. Measuring in at six-foot-eight, 280 pounds, it’s really fascinating to see a player of his size move so quickly. As soon as the ball is snapped, he goes and gets the quarterback with ease. He will be a tremendous pass-rushing asset for Nebraska.

Not only that, he is a solid tackler. These are two areas that Nebraska football has been trying to get better in, and they certainly did with his commitment on Saturday night. Weaver indicated that Tuioti was a huge influencing factor in his commitment. Weaver’s trainer Shawman Wright indicated as much.

"“He picked the Huskers because of the relationship he has with Coach Tony and how Coach Tony was really consistent and he talked to him like he was a regular person,” Wright explained. “Not specifically about football, but moreso trying to get to know Jailen. He fell in love with that. It’s different not being able to go see the facilities right now, but it was more so the relationship he had with him and Coach Frost and the thing Nebraska had to offer academically, athletically and after football as well.”"

Weaver is just another huge get for a 2021 recruiting class that is extremely strong. With 20 commitments in total, the class itself ranks 20th overall and fifth in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. This class certainly has a solid foundation to build off of, and it has a ton of talent on both sides of the football.

Obviously, we don’t know how these players will play at the collegiate level, but, this looks like one of the most complete classes Nebraska has gotten in recent memory.

Nebraska has been trying to make an effort to recruit aggressive players on the defensive side of the  ball, and Weaver’s commitment certainly helps with that goal. I’ll be interested to see where he fits, as his speed allows him to impactful no matter where the coaching staff puts him.
