Nebraska Football may play the opener without Omar Manning

As the opening game gets closer, there still has been a whole lot of nothing when it comes to the status of Nebraska football wide receiver Omar Manning.. Scott Frost gave a progress update on Thursday as to where the wide receiver stands. Even then, it was a whole lot of nothing.

Manning’s status has been up in the air for quite some time now, in the sense that we have not gotten any clarity about where he stands. As Frost continues game planning for Ohio State, he indicated to the media that the program was still working through getting Manning to play.

Manning would undoubtedly be an asset on a Nebraska football team is going to need all of its weapons against Ohio State. Let me be clear: Do I think Nebraska is going to win the game?  Personally, I believe it will be a tall task. Manning could help Nebraska football over the course of the game, but I personally doubt that he will be out on the field on Saturday.

If anything, we will see him in week two. Judging by Scott Frost’s comments, I feel as though he will be able to play in the second week. If he was going to play, I feel as though Frost would have said so. His status has been murky the entire time. Frost would not go through the motions of giving an indirect answer if Manning was going to play.

"“We’re still working through that,” Frost said. “Omar’s had a few setbacks, too. Feel good about his progress. Don’t know if we’ll have him this week or not, but hopefully it won’t be very long.”"

In any event, it sounds like Manning is on track to play, it’s just not this week. Hopefully, we’ll see him sooner rather than later. In the meantime, Frost certainly gave a whole lot of nothing when it came to his answer on Manning. I should not be surprised, it’s kind of the way Frost has been answering questions about Manning all through the preseason.

We have never really gotten a clear answer on Manning, nor do I think we will get one in regards to his status. I think we’ll get more clarity after the Ohio State game, but for now, Frost and his staff are keeping close to the vest. It’s the way Frost has always been. For someone wanting to know a clear answer, it is frustrating.
