Nebraska Football now has flexibility at quarterback.

As the Nebraska football season gets underway, there has been questions in regards to who will start at quarterback for Nebraska on Saturday. Monday, the question was answered, and I feel as though it was the answer that many were expecting. Adrian Martinez will start for Nebraska against Ohio State.

With that being said, head coach Scott Frost said on Monday that he feels as though Nebraska has two starting quarterbacks. With Luke McCaffrey being the other quarterback, Nebraska has a deep room just based off those two alone. That does not even count the quarterback talent waiting in the wings for the future.

Martinez will look to bounce back after an underwhelming 2019 season. McCaffrey will look to continue to build off what he learned in his freshman season last year. Between the two of them, they should be able to bring success to the Nebraska football quarterback room.

As Frost told the media on Monday, he feels as though there is not much separation between the two quarterbacks. He indicated that the gap between the two was not that wide. This is something that Nebraska football fans should pay attention to over the next couple of weeks.

"“I don’t know how much separation there is,” Frost said. “I think we have two first-string quarterbacks. That’s the way we feel about them. I really believe that if Luke was the one that had been playing and we would have had the same camp, it might be Luke. They both had tremendous camps and we see ourselves as having the luxury of having two starters.”"

On the one hand it’s good that Nebraska has another quarterback that they can plug into the offense if need be. On the other hand, it makes me think that we may see a fair amount of McCaffrey at some point in the season. it will be because Martinez is performing badly. Rather, it will just give defenses another look to plan for. This flexibility is not something Nebraska football had last year.

This is kind of what I expected heading into the 2020 season. Martinez was undoubtedly the top choice in my opinion, but I felt as though McCaffrey was breathing down his neck of Martinez so to speak. You heard me hype him up all through the offseason. now, it looks as  those the quarterback race is not only an actual race, but a legitimate competition.
