Nebraska football named their captains on Saturday

As a new Nebraska football season gets sent to get underway, team captains for the 2020 season were announced on Saturday.

Quarterback Adrian Martinez, wide receiver Kade Warner, cornerback DiCaprio Bootle, linebacker Collin Miller, and offensive lineman Matt Farniok were all named captains.

This is certainly an interesting group. I do not have a problem with any of these captains. They have senior leadership, and some have shown a ton of it this off-eason in particular. Bootle and Warner have both been ready to go, and for Bootle, he will need to be ready to anchor a strong secondary unit.

For Warner, he will be a veteran on a wide receiver unit that has talent. Nevertheless, they are extremely young as a group.

I think these are great leaders for the Nebraska football program. Martinez undoubtedly deserves to be a captain. Not only that it all but puts an end to the speculation of who will be starting this season. Luke McCaffrey is undoubtedly the second quarterback in line. His time will come, but his time is not right now.

In any event, the announcement on Saturday made me excited for next Saturday. This group will undoubtedly have his hands full against Ohio State, and I can’t wait to see how they come out and play the game. In particular for Martinez, this is going to be a big game for him to show that he can compete with the likes of Ohio State and the elites in the Big Ten conference.

It is hard to believe the season is only a week away. Especially as the offseason felt extremely long, it’s exciting that play is set to begin. The Ohio State game will undoubtedly be a key barometer in terms of where this Nebraska football team stands for the remainder of the season.
