The recent uniform release brings added excitement to an already unforgettable 2020-2021 Nebraska football season.

In anticipation of one of the most drawn-out starts to a Husker football season we have seen in recent years, Nebraska released their annual alternate uniforms for the 2020-2021 campaign on Tuesday.

The uniforms were showcased on several Husker social media platforms. Nebraska’s social media team did a fantastic job creating a Halloween themed video to present the new uniforms to the corn-crazed faithful.

The goblin and ghoul hype video gave fans a great indication of when they might see the Huskers sport these uniforms on the field as they face off against Wisconsin at home on October 31. However, as of this publication, it has yet to be confirmed when the Huskers will wear the uniforms.

The uniforms are a significant change of pace from the traditional home and away uniforms. They are often brought into the uniform rotation to create a newfound level of excitement for Husker fans, current players, and also the recruits watching at home or on the sideline in front of 90,000 strong.

The alternate uniforms for this season mirror similarly to that of last year’s uniforms. It makes sense given this seems to be a collection created to honor the illustrious history of the Blackshirt tradition hence the name, “The Legend of the Blackshirts.”

Everything with these uniforms are a bit in reverse. Last year, Nebraska suited up wearing a black jersey with white pants and a black “N” on the helmet while having the iconic skull and crossbones on the uniforms’ sleeves.

This year, the Huskers will sport a white jersey with black pants and an almost identical helmet to last year’s ensemble.

However, though the uniforms still have the Blackshirt logo on the sleeves, there is red stitching around the logo. One can only assume that the seam was intentional and was meant to resemble some essence of stitching you would find on a Halloween costume.

Many in the Husker nation are split on alternate uniforms. Some like it, while others side with tradition and don’t care much for them. Who could blame the traditionalists?

In my opinion, most of the jerseys outside of last years have been tacky and not appealing to the eyes. Need I remind you of the chrome jerseys from 2016?

Maybe I’m on an island here, but wouldn’t it be nice to see the Blackshirt logo on the helmet?

Adidas needs to step it up a little more, in my opinion, as outside of last year’s jersey, I would be okay if I did not see another alternate uniform.

I want Adidas to be more imaginative when it comes to these alternate uniforms so that we can be proud of them or at least would not mind being seen rocking one on gamedays.

Nevertheless, it’s great for the players to show off their new uniforms every year.

It is also a great promotional tool for the program to showcase something organic to incoming and future recruits.
