The newest Nebraska football tight end is ready to work hard.

As you have all heard by now, Nebraska football picked up a commitment on Monday from 2021 tight end James Carnie.

With this commitment, Nebraska football now has several tight ends that can go in and start for the program. This newfound depth is certainly welcome, and it should be able to help Nebraska formulate game plans that will confuse defenses. They now have a lot of options at the position, and that will help the program moving forward.

For his part, Carnie is not afraid of competition. He told 247Sports on Monday that he wants to come in and compete. He seems very confident in his abilities, and in particular his speed. For what it’s worth, that’s something that I was able to pick up on film as well. His speed was noticeable, and it is not something you always see with the tight end position.

From reading his quotes, I could sense that Carnie knows he has earned his spot, and that’s exactly what I love to hear. He seems confident in his ability, and he knows what he can bring to the table. I feel like with many players, knowing their skill sets and how to use them properly is half the battle.

"“Nebraska already has two tight ends and I’d be the third, but I clearly don’t find that a challenge, and competition is good,” he said. “I’m ready to go in and compete. Nebraska wants to use the tight ends more, Frost told me. I’m a 6-foot-5 tight end that runs a 4.6 40-yard dash. That can stretch the field.”"

I love to hear this because he knows that the job is not going to be handed to him. He knows that he has to work hard in order to beat out the two other out the tight ends in his class.  It also sounds like he has an idea of how he will make a huge impact within the offense.

Having multiple game-ready tight ends is a welcome problem to have. It is not a luxury that Nebraska football had last year. They really had to work with their outside receivers to find any production offense. Not anymore.

I love that Carney is going to come in and compete. He doesn’t seem like he is taking the position for granted, and that’s what I love to here as well. He is already determined to win the spot and it sounds like he is ready to go. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table, and I love that he is determined to succeed. Players with that mindset are exactly what Nebraska needs in the program.
