Nebraska basketball received  major news on Monday.

This is a major news for Nebraska basketball. Transfer guard Trey McGowens received his waiver on Monday to play in the upcoming season.

This is major for Nebraska as he is likely to start in their backcourt. He averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists last season. He also proved to be solid defensively, averaging two steals per game to boot. He played in 66 games last year for the Panthers.

I’m excited to see what he does in a Fred Hoiberg-led offense. The way Nebraska basketball uses the guard position, they are very involved in the offense. They can spread the floor, get to the basket with ease and also allow for the shooters on the floor to get good looks. McGowens has the capability to do that.

I could see his points numbers going up as well as his assist numbers. The way the point guard is used in the offense, he is the engine that makes things go. We saw it last year. His play may look a little bit messy in the beginning as he adjusts to a new system. However, I believe he will be able to catch on right away. He has the ability to make plays happen, and that’s half the battle.

I’ll be interested to see exactly what role he plays for the Nebraska basketball offense. Nebraska now has a lot of scorers and a lot of players who could put the ball in the hoop with ease. I have a feeling that this team will be a lot similar to last year. Hopefully, this year’s team will stick around a bit longer than last year.

McGowens is certainly a piece of that. I’ll be interested to see exactly what he brings to the table. In any event, this gives the Nebraska basketball program a major boost as they had into a season looking for improvement. Last season, the foundation was laid for this program. Now, it’s been all torn up once again. Hoiberg has to rebuild once again. McGowan’s should be able to assist with this.
