A former Nebraska star has been promoted to the NFL.

If you plan on watching Thursday Night Football, you may see a Nebraska football alum. Cornerback Lamar Jackson was elevated to the New York Jets active roster ahead of their game against the Denver Broncos.

Jackson of course made quite a name for himself at Nebraska, taking on the role of a pass-coverage corner. He had a great senior season, and was named to the All-Big Ten second-team. He recorded 12 pass breakups and three interceptions, which put him at the top  of national and team statistics.

In addition, he recorded 40 tackles, four a cause for a loss, and a sack. He also forced two fumbles, and recovered one. His senior year in 2019 was a microcosm of what he did at Nebraska.

More from Husker Corner

For his career, he tallied 123 tackles, two sacks, five interceptions, and 27 defendant passes. In addition to not only being a pass-coverage quarter, he was also a solid tackler. 40 tackles last year.

This will certainly be an intriguing situation or Jackson to be in. The Denver Broncos are not exactly firing on all cylinders with a 0-3 record. With Brett Rypien at quarterback, this could be a long night for the Broncos, and a great one for the Jets secondary. It will be interesting to see how much playing time Jackson gets.

He certainly fits the mold of a NFL corner. He is tall, he is fast, and he can cover decently. In a league where the passing game is king, that’s exactly what you need. I will certainly be looking forward to seeing what he does on Thursday, and how much playing time he gets. Good on the Jets for signing him as well. I personally thought that he would be able to get drafted. However, at least the Jets gave him a shot .

Now, he has a chance to make the most of it. In the first game of the week, he can show exactly what made him a reliable corner during the second half of his Nebraska football career.
