This is a big get for Nebraska Basketball.

With all the Nebraska football news that has been coming out lately, there is some Nebraska basketball news to report. Thursday, the program landed 2021 center Wilhelm Briedenbach.

Breidenbach is the 17th overall center in the 2021 class, and the sixth overall center in his class in the state of California per the 247Sports composite rankings. He is a four-star recruit, which is huge for this program. He becomes the second-best ranked recruit to commit for Nebraska since 2000.

Now, why is he so special? He dominated at the high school level. He can shoot both from the outside and can drive to the paint with ease. When I watch him move, he is extremely graceful. He doesn’t have many choppy steps when he is the driving to the basket. He just flows to the basket with ease. He is also a good finisher at the rim, which is something that Nebraska basketball could have used last year.

When I look at his game, he is extremely polished. He should be able to be a major factor for Nebraska in the future. The fact that he can shoot is also a plus. In a Fred Hoiberg-led offense, shooting is extremely important.

The Nebraska basketball program can have a mid-range shooter that spreads the floor. In that respect, I see Breidenbach fitting in this offense very well.

In addition to him being able to drive into the paint, I can see him taking over the game with his shooting. He has the capability to do that and he has the size to be able to look off defenders.

So far, Nebraska basketball has Keisei Tominaga and Breidenbach in the 2021 class. This is certainly a good start to a class, as both players are impact playmakers.

It may take a little while, but Nebraska basketball is steadily improving. Hopefully, they can continue to build out this 2021 class and stock the roster with talent. Breidenbach certainly falls into that category. He may be that multi-faceted big man that the Nebraska basketball program has been trying to find for a while.

In any event, I’ll be interested to see how he fits into the offense, and what exactly he will be able to bring to the table. My guess is that he will be able to fit nicely and give Nebraska basketball a go-to scorer that is not a point guard. In terms of game planning by the opposition, that may work in Nebraska’s favor as well.
