Nebraska football could have a special player in Wright.

Much ado was made about some of the newcomers in the Nebraska football secondary. One of them is Javin Wright. I remember writing about him last offseason, and what he could bring to the table. Now, it appears that he turning heads as the 2020 season begins to unfold.

In a Zoom call on Tuesday, head coach Travis Fisher indicated that Wright was making progress. In what is becoming a deep secondary with several newcomers, Wright could certainly be a factor. He certainly had a lot of buzz surrounding him when he came in last year, and now he will have a chance to show what he is made of.

Although he is a talented player, we are not exactly sure what role he is going to play yet. As Brian Christopherson of 247Sports notes, Wright is a hybrid player. In a secondary that is very deep, this may serve him well.

Whatever the case may be, is another player who did not see the field  last year because of a redshirt. Now, he will look to make an impact for a team that is looking to get better defensively. With the Nebraska defense to be a bit more energized this year,  Wright could certainly help with that. The fact that he gets to work with Mike Dawson is also a benefit to him. You have heard about the type of energy Dawson brings. This could be a perfect fit for Wright. Especially with Wright being a hybrid player, he could use that energy in multiple ways on the field.

"“He’s a big, long guy that has a defensive backs skillset,” Dawson said. “He’ll be a guy hopefully kind of like JoJo (Domann) does a little bit where he can play a little bit of both and move back and forth. He’s a great kid, he’s really smart, so I’ll be able to get my hands on him as much as I can help.”"

I’ll be interested to see if Wright can make that next leap, and if he will be able to help out Nebraska football. He certainly has the talent, now he  has put it all together.
